Pacers Outlast Pistons in Season Opener
The Indiana Pacers opened their 2023-24 NBA season with a 113-104 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Pacers trailed by 10 points entering the fourth quarter, but they rallied to outscore the Pistons 36-19 in the final period. Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton led the way with 24 points and 10 assists, while center Myles Turner added 22 points and 10 rebounds. The Pistons were led by guard Jaden Ivey, who scored 22 points. Center Isaiah Stewart added 21 points and 10 rebounds for Detroit.
Pacers' Fourth-Quarter Surge
The Pacers' fourth-quarter surge was sparked by Haliburton, who scored 10 points in the period. Turner also played a key role, scoring eight points and grabbing four rebounds in the final quarter. The Pacers also benefited from some timely three-point shooting in the fourth quarter. Buddy Hield made two three-pointers in the period, while Haliburton and Aaron Nesmith each added one.
Pistons' Slow Start
The Pistons got off to a slow start in the game, shooting just 38.5% from the field in the first half. They also struggled to contain Haliburton, who had 14 points and seven assists in the first two quarters. The Pistons did manage to rally in the third quarter, outscoring the Pacers 33-23. However, they couldn't keep up with the Pacers in the fourth quarter.
Pacers Look Ahead
The Pacers will be back in action on Friday night when they host the Philadelphia 76ers. The Pistons will return home to face the Orlando Magic on Saturday night.
