The DR Congo international suffered the injury in the first half of Brentford's 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday. He was substituted off in the 27th minute and was replaced by Bryan Mbeumo.
Brentford manager Thomas Frank has confirmed that Wissa has suffered a "significant" injury which will sideline him for the next couple of months.
"Yoane has suffered a significant injury which will rule him out for a couple of months," Frank said.
"It's a big blow to us because he's been in good form this season. We'll have to assess how we're going to cope without him, but we have a lot of players in the squad who are capable of stepping up."
Wissa has been a key player for Brentford this season, his goals have helped the Bees to a mid-table position in the Premier League. He will be a big miss for Frank's side, who will now have to look to other players to provide goals in his absence.
