Boeing's Starliner Spacecraft Soars to Space with NASA Astronauts
Updated June 5th, 2024
After several delays, Boeing's Starliner spacecraft successfully lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, carrying NASA astronauts Barry "Butch" Wilmore and Sunita Williams. This marks the first crewed launch of Starliner and a significant milestone for Boeing's commercial crew program.
13 Years in the Making
The Starliner mission is the culmination of more than 13 years of development and testing by Boeing. The spacecraft is designed to carry up to four astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) and provide a safe and reliable transportation system for future space exploration missions.
Critical Test Flight
This first crewed mission is a critical test flight for Starliner, which will demonstrate its capabilities and safety before it can be certified for operational missions. The astronauts will conduct a series of tests and evaluations during their six-month stay on the ISS, including docking, undocking, and re-entry procedures.
