Jose Mourinho appointed Roma head coach
Three-year deal for former Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea boss
Mourinho will take charge of the Serie A club from the start of next season
Jose Mourinho has been appointed Roma head coach on a three-year deal, the Serie A club have announced. The former Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea boss will take charge of the Italian club from the start of next season, replacing Paulo Fonseca. Roma finished seventh in Serie A this season and will play in the Europa Conference League next season. Mourinho has won 25 major trophies during his managerial career, including the Champions League twice with Porto and Inter Milan. He was sacked by Tottenham in April after a poor run of results and has been linked with a number of jobs since then, including the Real Madrid and Newcastle United managerial positions. But Mourinho has now opted to join Roma and will be tasked with leading the club back into the Champions League. Roma president Dan Friedkin said: "We are delighted to welcome Jose Mourinho to the AS Roma family. Jose is a unique coach, with a proven track record of success at the highest level, and we believe that he is the ideal person to lead our ambitious project. "We have a long and glorious history, and we are determined to build on that success. Jose shares our vision and ambition, and we believe that he can help us achieve our goals." Mourinho said: "I am very happy to be joining Roma. This is a great club with a rich history and a passionate fan base. I am excited to start working with the players and the staff, and I am determined to help the club achieve its objectives. "I want to thank the club for the opportunity to come here and I am eager to get started."
